Area of Expertise:
Dr. Svein Vagle is a Senior Scientist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada and an Adjunct Professor with the university of Victoria. His research interests include the development and use of novel acoustical and non-acoustical instrumentation and techniques for measurements of physical processes in the upper ocean. His research includes measurements of the natural and man-made sounds in the ocean and the interpretation of these signals in order to increase understanding of the oceans and the animals who live therein. The oceans are getting noisier due to human activities and it is therefore important to find out what implications this might have on local ecosystems.
